I Managed My Parents’ Care From Another Country and From Down the Road. The Challenges Were Surprisingly Similar.
Deepak Kumar
Founder & CEO
For years, I looked after my parents’ health from another country.
Like many NRIs, I managed everything from a distance: booking appointments across time zones, following up on test results, arranging second opinions, handling emergencies over the phone, and sometimes boarding the next flight home because being far away felt impossible.
No matter how much I did, I always felt the same thing: I should have been there.
Today, I live in India and I’m much closer to my parents. But the challenge hasn’t really changed.
Their medical information is still scattered everywhere. Some reports are in paper folders, some in WhatsApp chats, some buried in phone galleries. Every doctor sees only a part of the story. And every new consultation starts with the same exercise: trying to reconstruct years of medical history from memory.
That never felt right.
When you’re making important health decisions, you shouldn’t have to rely on recollection, missing reports, or incomplete information. Families need a clear, reliable picture of their loved one’s health, one that stays current and is ready whenever a doctor needs it.
That’s why I started CareIntell.
My professional career has been spent in banking, across operations, transformation, and technology-led change. But the idea for CareIntell came from a much more personal place: the challenges of managing my parents’ healthcare.
It comes from living the same frustrations that millions of families face every day. The neighbourhood doctor who asks for past records. The specialist seeing a patient for the first time. The diagnostic report photographed and saved “just in case.” The growing stack of medical files that nobody can easily piece together when it matters most.
Healthcare is complicated enough. Managing the information around it shouldn’t be.
CareIntell is being built to give families one trusted place for their loved ones’ medical history, so they can spend less time searching for information and more time caring for the people who matter.
Looking after your parents is already a big responsibility. Keeping track of their health history shouldn’t be another one.

Ajai sees the same problem from the other side of the consultation. Over 20 years as a hospitalist and physician leader in the US and India, he has treated patients who arrive without their history, when the decisions matter most.
He still practises at Wayne UNC Health Care and volunteers with a community-based palliative care programme in Mysore. At CareIntell he makes sure every record is organised the way a clinician reads it: dated, sourced and easy to check.
